Monty, the creator of Rippin’ Drag Reels, served our nation with honor in the United States Marine Corps. His time as a Marine forged a deep appreciation for focus, discipline, and the adrenaline of the unexpected – qualities that resonate deeply with the thrill of the catch. Just as he dedicated himself to serving his country, Monty now channels that same passion into bringing the exhilaration of the fight to your fingertips, connecting his military background with the beloved pastime of fishing.

A short biography of the employee and why their background should inspire potential clients' confidence.
My name is Monty, I’m 35 years old, and I was born and raised in Southern California. My life has been a unique journey, marked by dedication, challenges, and ultimately, a path toward healing and growth.
Early Enlistment: I graduated high school early and joined the Marines at 17.
Infantryman: I served four years in the infantry as a Saw Gunner and Designated Marksman with 3rd Battalion 6th Marines.
Combat Deployments: My service included deployments to Fallujah in 2008 and Marjah, Afghanistan, in 2010.
EOD Specialist: Inspired by the life-saving work of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians in Afghanistan, I reenlisted in 2011 and changed my specialty to bomb squad.
Camp Pendleton: After EOD school, I married and served the remainder of my contract with the Camp Pendleton EOD base team.
In 2014, a diagnosis of Crohn’s disease led me to separate from the Marines in 2015. I moved to Florida seeking peace and a new beginning.
Finding Solace in Nature: Surf fishing quickly became a passion and a healthy outlet, a pursuit I embraced most days during my first year out of the service.
Family Life: My son was born in 2016, and I became a stay-at-home dad as my wife worked full-time. Our daughter joined our family in 2018.
The years that followed were marked by significant health struggles, both mental and physical.
Health Battles: I battled with my weight, fluctuating from overweight to skin and bones, and spent many nights in the hospital with my wife by my side. Western medicine offered little relief.
Discovering Yoga: A turning point came when my wife, after becoming a certified instructor at the end of 2019, introduced me to yoga.
A Profound Shift: The beginning of 2020 was pivotal. After experiencing suicidal ideations, I voluntarily admitted myself to the hospital for a 72-hour hold.
A Path of Growth: A few months later, my wife and I separated, and she and the children moved back to California. Since then, I’ve embarked on a conscious journey of growth, self-discovery, and healing.
Since 2021, my journey of healing has propelled me into exciting new ventures:
Yoga Instructor: I became a certified yoga instructor, teaching for a Veteran non-profit in San Diego and a studio in Florida.
Academic Achievement: I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Entrepreneurial Spirit: I launched two businesses out of pocket and traveled to Egypt, Greece, Indonesia, and Vietnam for my first fishing business attempt.
Rippin’ Drag Reels: Most recently, I created Rippin’ Drag Reels and am excited to see where this venture takes me, with the potential for it to grow into a larger brand.
